If the dividend on your shares went unclaimed for seven years in a row, the company was required by Section 124(6) of the Companies Act, 2013 to move those shares to the Investor Education and Protection Fund. The unpaid dividends go with them. Nothing is forfeited: the shares still belong to you or your family, and the government holds them until someone claims them.
The claim is made on Form IEPF-5. You can file it yourself on the MCA portal, free of charge. Where claims usually stall is the verification that follows. The company checks your documents against a register that may be decades old, and any gap sends the claim back: a different spelling, an old address, a missing certificate, a shareholder who has passed away.
That verification stage is the work we take on. We match the old records, prepare the heirship papers where needed, and answer the company when it raises a query.
Our Step-by-Step Process
Find what is there
Search the IEPF records by shareholder name and company to list every holding and unpaid dividend.
Put the paperwork in order
Match names, addresses and signatures to the company’s register. Prepare KYC and banker attestation, and heirship papers if the holder has died.
File Form IEPF-5
Submit the claim in the claimant’s name on the MCA portal and note the SRN acknowledgement.
Send the claim to the company
The signed claim papers go to the company’s Nodal Officer for verification.
Company verifies
The company checks the claim against its records and sends its verification report to the IEPF Authority.
Approval and credit
Once approved, the shares are credited to your demat account and the dividend amount to your bank account.

Common Questions Answered
Choose one who puts the fee in writing, does not ask for a large payment up front, gives receipts for original certificates, and tells you honestly which steps you could do yourself. We work on those terms: the first assessment is free, and our fee is an agreed percentage charged only after the shares are credited to your demat account.
File Form IEPF-5 on the MCA portal, then send the signed claim papers to the company for verification. Once the company confirms the claim to the IEPF Authority and it is approved, the shares are credited to your demat account and the dividends to your bank account. None of it requires travel; it can all be done from Bijnor.
Open a demat account with a depository participant, fill in a Dematerialisation Request Form and surrender the certificates. The registrar checks that the name, signature and KYC on the folio match you. If they do not, those records have to be corrected first, and that is usually where people need help.
No, and this is a common confusion. Shareholders do not send shares to IEPF; companies transfer shares there when dividends go unclaimed for seven years. If your physical shares are already with IEPF, you claim them back on Form IEPF-5 and they come back in demat form. If they are not with IEPF, you convert them to demat directly through your depository participant.
The shares pass by transmission. A registered nominee applies with the death certificate and KYC. Without a nominee, legal heirs apply with an affidavit, an indemnity and no-objection letters from the other heirs. For larger holdings or disputed cases, a succession certificate from the District Court at Bijnor is usually required.
Search the IEPF Authority website (iepf.gov.in) by the shareholder’s name, or by company and folio number. Companies also publish the list of shares they transferred to IEPF on their own websites. If a parent held shares, search under their name as it appears on old certificates or dividend letters.
Several months, rarely weeks. The company must first verify the claim against its records and report to the IEPF Authority, and the Authority then approves it. Claims move faster when names, signatures and addresses already match the company’s register, and slower when heirship papers are needed.
If the dividend is less than seven years old, it is still with the company: claim it from the company or its registrar with your KYC updated. If it has been unclaimed for seven years, it has moved to IEPF along with the shares, and you claim both together on Form IEPF-5.
From the Tehsildar of the tehsil where the deceased lived, by applying on the e-District UP portal; the Lekhpal verifies the family before it is issued. This is different from a succession certificate, which is granted by the District Court at Bijnor and is usually required for larger holdings or disputed cases.
