How many Tata Steel shares do you own today?

Worked example. Taking only the 2022 split: 100 TISCO shares held before July 2022 are now 1,000 Tata Steel shares.

Quick reference: what to multiply your certificate by

Find the row for when the shares were bought. The multiplier is what each share on the certificate has become since, counting only the corporate actions we have verified.

Counting only the 2022 sub-division. Tata Steel’s earlier bonus and rights history is not included because we have not verified it, so an older TISCO certificate may represent more than ten times its face count. MUFG Intime confirms the holding on a folio.

What to check on a TISCO certificate

• The name. "The Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited" is today’s Tata Steel — renamed on 12 August 2005.
• The face value. ₹10 on anything issued before July 2022; each of those became ten ₹1 shares.
• Folio and distinctive numbers, which MUFG Intime searches on.
• Any TSR Darashaw or TSR Consultants correspondence filed with it. That was the old registrar; those letters often carry the folio number even when the certificate is missing.

Why Tata group letters point to three different registrars

Families often find correspondence naming TSR Darashaw, then TSR Consultants, then Link Intime, and conclude the records have been lost. They have not. TSR Consultants merged into Link Intime with effect from 22 December 2023, and Link Intime was renamed MUFG Intime India on 31 December 2024.

It is the same registry under successive names. Write to MUFG Intime quoting the folio on the oldest letter you have.

How do you recover or sell old Tata Steel shares?

• The shares are in your name and you have the certificates

  Update KYC on the folio if needed, then dematerialise them so they can be sold.

• The shareholder has died

  The nominee, surviving joint holder or legal heirs claim through transmission.

• You bought the shares on paper before April 2019

  SEBI's special window, open until 4 February 2027, lets you complete the transfer.

• The certificates are lost or damaged

  The registered holder or heirs apply for duplicates, credited to demat.

• The shares or dividends were transferred to IEPF

  Claim them back from the IEPF Authority with Form IEPF-5.

• The certificate is in an old or merged company name

  The holding may now sit with a renamed or successor company.
