IEPF Claim Pending? What Your SRN Status Means and How to Move It Forward

An IEPF-5 claim can sit for months without anyone telling you why. The steps between filing and refund, the postal-receipt upload that many claimants miss, the 30-day and 60-day deadlines, and what to do at each point it can stall.

Part of our guide to IEPF claims and Form IEPF-5

You filed Form IEPF-5, got a Service Request Number (SRN), and then nothing happened. That's the most common complaint we hear about IEPF claims. Nearly always, the claim is waiting on one specific step, and it helps to know which.

What happens after you file

  • 1. You file Form IEPF-5 online: on the MCA portal and receive an SRN. Filing is free.
  • 2. You send the physical documents: to the company's Nodal Officer for IEPF, at the company's registered office
  • 3. You upload the postal receipt: against the SRN on the portal
  • 4. The company verifies the claim: and its Nodal Officer files an e-verification report (EVR) online
  • 5. The IEPF Authority examines the claim: and, if it approves, credits the shares to your demat account and refunds any dividend to your bank account

The step people miss: uploading the postal receipt

Since MCA's update of 18 January 2025, you need to upload proof that you've sent the documents. The SRN stays in the "Pending for Action" tab until you upload the postal or courier receipt there. Once you do, it moves to "Under Processing", and only then can the company's Nodal Officer file the e-verification report.

If your claim has been "Pending for Action" for weeks, check this first. The company can't verify a claim it can't act on yet.

Deadlines on the company

Rule 7 of the IEPF Authority's rules gives the company 30 days from receiving the claim to send its online verification report. A company that misses it can still file, but pays an additional fee of ₹50 a day, up to ₹2,500. That fee is the company's cost, not yours.

Deadlines on the Authority

The IEPF Authority is to dispose of a claim within 60 days of receiving the company's verification report, complete in all respects. If it takes longer, the reasons are to be recorded in writing and communicated to the claimant.

If the Authority finds something missing, it can ask you for more information. You have 15 days to respond. If you don't, the claim may be rejected, so watch your email and the portal closely once the company has verified.

Stuck at the company

  • Confirm the documents were delivered: pull up the courier or post tracking record
  • Confirm you've uploaded the receipt and the status reads "Under Processing"
  • Email the company's Nodal Officer for IEPF, whose details are on the company's investor page, quoting the SRN, folio or demat ID, and the delivery date
  • If the company has questions, it will often route them through its registrar. Answer quickly and completely.
  • If 30 days pass with no response, write to the company's compliance officer as well

Stuck at the Authority

  • Check your registered email, including spam, for any request for information, and respond within 15 days
  • If 60 days have passed since the company verified, contact the IEPF Authority through the details on iepf.gov.in, quoting your SRN

Don't file a second claim

It's tempting to start again. Don't. The company's Nodal Officer can't file an EVR while another IEPF-5 for the same folio or demat account, against the same company, is pending or approved. A duplicate filing can hold up both.

If your claim is rejected rather than stuck, see why IEPF claims are rejected and how to fix them.
